Arita-yaki Inkstone & Saiemboku Colored Sumi Set
This special set brings together the exquisite beauty of Arita-yaki Porcelain with the innovation of Masao Horiike's colored sumi. As the shokunin responsible for Japan's first truly colorful inks, Horiike's popular "Saiemboku" series is the perfect match for this translucent white porcelain inkstone.
The clear white surface of the Arita-yaki suzuri is key to appreciating the ink. It makes the shade of the gorgeous colored ink instantly visible, enhancing the time you spend mindfully grinding the sumi.
Beyond its beauty, the Arita porcelain suzuri is prized for its practicality. Its easy-to-handle size and light weight make it a pleasure to use, and its porcelain material is simple to maintain: just a small amount of water easily washes away ink stains, preserving its pristine whiteness.
This set offers the versatility required for a wide range of uses, including authentic Sumi-e painting, picture letters, ink painting, and calligraphy art.

Mr. Masao Horiike's Gold and Silver Sumi ink sticks are a groundbreaking addition to the artist's palette. The central feature is their unique compatibility: you can enjoy the pure gold and silver colors individually, or combine them seamlessly with other solid sumi inks for limitless expression.
Like traditional sumi, these metallic sticks are ground on an inkstone. Their excellent blendability allows you to create blended metallic colors by mixing them directly with regular sumi, or to add brilliant highlights by layering them over existing ink-drawn surfaces. This makes them ideal for traditional sumi-e, suibokuga (ink painting), ink wash, and calligraphy.
To use, grind the stick on an inkstone to a density equal to or slightly darker than your regular sumi ink. For the most dramatic metallic effect, let the ground ink sit for about five minutes. The metallic particles will settle, and you can then carefully discard the excess liquid on top before use. The impact of the gold and silver is beautifully intensified when applied to strongly dyed or dark paper.

金 ( kin : gold )
神仙 ( shinsen : enchanted land )
This was made of Superfine rapeseed(canola) oil smoke, Gold leaf.
The main ingredient is superb rapeseed (canola) oil.
When painting dark black, the color is glossy. When painting pale black, it is brownish black.
Why is gold leaf attached to ink sticks?
There are three reasons for this.
The first reason is, of course, the beauty of the ink.
The second reason is preservation. Gold is not subject to chemical change, so it is suitable for
preserving the quality of the ink for long periods of time.
The third reason is practicality when creating works of art. For many years, many Japanese
calligraphers have said that using liquid ink made with gold leaf-coated ink sticks makes it easier
to draw soft lines. It is said that the gold particles help to make the brush strokes smoother. For
this reason, ink sticks with gold leaf are said to be good for writing Kuzushiji ( Japanese cursive letters).
